Selecting and Entering College

Homeschooled students are accepted in all types of US colleges; 2 year, 4 year, on-campus or online. We have no experience with on-campus colleges because we had compelling reasons for attending college online.

Study at home: Homeschool students are accustomed to studying at home.

Less expensive: Tuition costs may be the same for online college, but our parents saved money on transportation, boarding, and extra food costs.

No geographical limits: we could choose a college anywhere in the United States.

Online students receive the same diploma and transcript as on-campus students.

Online college is similar to remote work in that it involves assignment deadlines, virtual meetings, discussion groups, and sometimes group projects. We encountered students close to our age and working adults who have returned to college to complete a degree while working a job and raising a family.

There was time for other activities, such as exercising to keep fit, working on our tennis game, and other project activities, like starting a website and learning gourmet cooking.

College selection

When selecting an online college, our choices were primarily driven by the desire for an education, rather than focusing on campus life or college football, as these aspects did not matter to us. There were many colleges to choose from; some of the highest-ranked on-campus universities offer both online and on-campus courses. We also knew that all accredited colleges are required to maintain the same academic standards, so we chose a university with these qualities.

  • Good reputation

  • Suitable online degree program

  • Large selection of online classes

  • Acceptance of alternative credit

  • Acceptance of 90 transfer credits

  • A clear path to a degree in our chosen major

  • Reasonable tuition cost

Using the above checklist, we graduated on time and cost with no delays or setbacks.
