College at a 70% Savings

Our parents set up our homeschooling and college degree plan to have reasonable cost and to not burden us with student debt. To fund our college bachelor's degree, they implemented a lower-cost 2 step strategy for college tuition:

First, we had to accumulate 90 credits at a low cost per unit to be transferred to a university. The lowest-cost credit units are $0 because Modern States gives study materials and free test vouchers to take CLEP tests at no cost. Other alternative college-level classes will cost between $12 to $40 per credit. If the average cost per credit is $25 then these 90 credits will cost $2250.

Next, the transfer student pays full tuition for the final 30 college credits. (We completed these college credits in under a year.) Full tuition is $400 per credit, so the remaining 30 credits cost $12,000.

In this example, the total tuition cost of the bachelor's degree for the transfer student is $14,250, but every student's results will differ. Since studies were completed at home so there were no extra transportation or boarding costs.

In comparison, a student entering college as a freshman or first-year student will pay full tuition or $400 for each of the 120 credits to get a bachelor's degree, and the total cost will be $48,000. The transfer student's fees are 70% less. Cost savings depend on many factors, as outlined on this website.
